Take Advantage of the Season’s Fruits and Vegetables!
As we find ourself fully in the spring months, we start to see new fruits and vegetables in season at our grocery stores. We would be remiss to not incorporate these foods into our diets. Whether you eat them raw, or you use them as part of a tried-and-true recipe, you will undoubted benefit from the vitamins and antioxidants that are jam-packed inside! Keep reading to learn more about some of the best of the reason.
Arugula
On top of being pull of chlorophyll, fiber, and water, leafy greens like arugula are rich in powerful vitamins like A and K. Thanks to all of this, they help reduce inflammation, detoxify you body, and even hydrate you. What’s more, arugula has a unique flavor from many greens, making for a particularly delicious salad.
Asparagus
Asparagus can be a sort of controversial vegetable for some, but when made properly, it is just as delicious as it is healthy. This vegetable is full of vitamin K, which has been implemented to help with blood clotting, heart, and bone health). It is also a great source of your B vitamins, copper, and selenium. The key to good asparagus is to not overcook it, so be careful!
Carrots
We’ve been told our whole lives that carrots are important for our eye health, and it’s true. Carrots are rich in beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A has been shown to be important for hair, skin, and nail health. With all the other antioxidants found in the vegetable, some even believe carrots are cancer-fighting. They are a great addition to any meal or snack.
Mint
If you’re like many people, your allergies flare up in the spring. Mint might be the solution. The herb contains rosmarinic acid, an antioxidant that has been shown to help relieve seasonal allergy symptoms. We all know mint for its menthol, which on top of being refreshing is a natural decongestant and can soothe upset stomachs.
Spring Peas
Peas have a shorter growing season than much of the foods on this list, which makes it all the more exciting when they come into grocery stores. B vitamins, as well as C and K vitamins, manganese, phosphorus, and even protein make them a great anti-inflammatory food. They add excellent pops of freshness to any dish.
Radishes
When one calls radishes a detoxifier, they aren’t kidding. As a natural diuretic, radishes are great for removing waste and toxins from the stomach and liver. They can help treat urinary and kidney conditions, hydrate your skin, and even fight cancer. They can go with just about any salad and are even great roasted.
Strawberries
Perhaps one of the most universally loved foods on this list, there isn’t anything quite like a fresh spring strawberry. They are high in sugar, but but they can actually help balance blood sugar. Their polyphenols are also great for immunity support and healthy cell renewal, so feel free to enjoy them as a snack or after-dinner dessert!
