Safe, healthy tips to help you lose weight and KEEP IT OFF!

“Superfoods” are foods that offer high nutritional benefits for minimal calories. These foods are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. While some people say the term “superfood” was initially a term manufactured by food companies to sell more product, there is some truth in what is hailed as a “superfood.”

Here is a list of some common “superfoods.”

Leafy greens

Kale spinach, collard greens, and many other types of leafy greens are known to have a number of health benefits. They are rich in vitamins A, C, E, K, and many B vitamins. They are also packed with carotenoids, iron, magnesium, potassium, and calcium. For instance, one cup of kale provides over 680% of an individual’s daily value of vitamin K. Talk about a lot of reward in a small package!

Berries

Acai, blueberries, raspberries, cranberries, goji berries– you name them, they’re a “superfood.” All sorts of berries contain high levels of antioxidants and flavonoids, which have been shown to lower the risk of heart attack. Some contain higher levels of amino acids, others are rich in fiber, and others can treat high blood pressure. Next time you eat a berry, look it up to learn about its laundry-list of benefits.

Beans

Beans are a low-fat protein that contain insoluable fiber (which can lower cholesterol), soluable fiber (which promotes feelings of fullness). A serving of beans provides an individual a vast array of vitamins and minerals, such as maganese. Soybeans in particular have been linked to help preventing age-related memory loss, redusing bone loss, and decreasing menopausal symptoms.

Tea

While more of a “superdrink” than a “superfood,” tea is low in calories, helps with hydration, and is packed with antioxidants. Green tea in particular has been linked with anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties, as well as reduced stress.

Nuts

Nuts and seeds contain massive amounts of healthy fats and high levels of minerals. Unlike some of the other superfoods, however, they are quite high in calories. What may seem like a small handful of nuts is often more than 100 calories. This is why shelled nuts and seeds are often considered ideal, because the tiem it takes for you to open them slows you down, so you consume less.
